Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need experience working in clay to become a member?Yes, our memberships are for those who work self-directed without instruction who are looking for access to space and equipment and to work within a ceramics community.
What is the minimum commitment for membership?We require a 6 month minimum commitment. Please give us 30 days notice when cancelling. We do not offer refunds for cancelled memberships.
Can I fire my work at the studio if i don't have a membership?At the moment we do not offer satellite firings. Please check back as we bring more kilns back online over the next year!
Do members need to bring their own tools?Yes, members need to bring all of their own tools, buckets, hand towels, wareboards - anything they use for their studio practice. We do have a communal tool wall with a limited selection of tools for all to use and we sell a small selection of tools, buckets, wareboards, and hand towels in our studio shop.
What is the cost of firing?The cost of firing is $0.05 per cubic square inch of each piece for the combined bisque and glaze. We use KilnFire to process and track all fired work.
How do I enter the building?You will receive a personal Butterfly key code for the building and a seperate key code for our studio.
The Ceramics Dept. is not a stand alone building. We’re located within the VIA complex of Haviland Hall in Suite G71 on the ground floor. There is way-finding signage when you enter the building to direct you to us!
Can i use my own clay? Yes, you are able to bring in Cone 6 clay only with approval before bringing it into the studio. Please inquire.
Can i use my own Glazes? You’re welcome to use your own Cone 6 glazes - please have them approved by us first to avoid any meltdowns in the kilns. Please inquire.
Can I bring a friend?All members have 1 free guest pass a month! We just ask that you please do not share your key codes with anyone.
