Do I need experience working in clay to become a member?

Yes, our memberships are for those who work self-directed without instruction who are looking for access to space and equipment and to work within a ceramics community.

What is the minimum commitment for membership?

We require a three month minimum commitment. Please give us 30 days notice when cancelling. We do not offer refunds for cancelled memberships.

Can I fire my work at the studio if i don't have a membership?

We offer Firing-Only memberships for $100 for kiln and glazing studio access. Firing-Only members have access to the studio from 9am-9pm daily. No work storage is included in this tier.

Do members need to bring their own tools?

Yes, members need to bring all of their own tools, buckets, hand towels, wareboards - anything they use for their studio practice. We do have a communal tool wall with a limited selection of tools for all to use and we sell a small selection of tools, buckets, wareboards, and hand towels in our studio shop.

What is the cost of firing?

The cost of firing is built into the price of our retail clay at $2.50 a pound (sold in 25lb bags). We sell cone 6 Standard Clay - 2 different clay bodies and a porcelain at $3.00 a pound.

If you prefer to use your own clay we need to approve it first (to avoid any meltdowns in the kilns.)

The cost of firing is $0.06 per cubic square inch per bisque firings and includes the price of the glaze firing.

How do I enter the building?

The Ceramics Dept. is not a stand alone building. We’re located in Suite G71 on the ground floor within the VIA complex of Haviland Hall. You will receive a personal Butterfly key code for the building and a seperate key code for our studio.

Can i use my own clay? 

If you prefer to use your own clay we need to approve it first (to avoid any meltdowns in the kilns.)

All members have 1 free guest pass a month! We just ask that you please do not share your key codes with anyone.
